HOSKINDS HARDWOODS STORY
Hoskinds Hardwoods started with my mother and father when I was at a very young age. My Dad always loved working with wood and my mother loved making crafts. They taught me that every piece of wood had a story to tell, from small scraps to sheets of plywood. We started in a shed in the back yard. As life happens, I got married, had 2 boys of my own and after the passing of my mother we moved all the woodworking tools to a small shop we built at our house in the country. I had many other occupations but woodworking and creating was always a passion of mine and I wanted to pass this on to my children and grandchildren. I have worked on the road for over 12 years traveling to other states for work in the oilfield. I would come home and find things to do in the shop. With the hopes and dreams of one day being able to come home and just build furniture and other items from wood and metal. In 2023 as a family, we decided to make Hoskinds Hardwoods official and try to make my dream of being home and working with my family to build beautiful furniture and household items from locally harvested logs. We built a trailer where we could go and pick up logs that were removed due to storm damage or dying from the forces of nature, so the logs weren’t just cut up for firewood or piled in a burn pile. We bought a sawmill, a forklift to move lumber and logs, and built our new shop. To use the lumber for indoor furniture or epoxy work, the lumber must be dried. Therefore, we purchased our IDRY vacuum kiln to be able to dry the lumber in weeks instead of years to air dry the lumber. This helps our lumber maintain its natural color and come out ready for your project.
